Hi, I want to work on the steering box on a SilverKing three wheeler but can't tell if the steering wheel is pressed on or is threaded onto the shaft what with all the old paint. It looks like the steering shaft needs to be removed to remove the steering box. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Gary

Welding a bead on the followers as you are calling them may not be as good as removing them and turning the wear surface 90 degrees, would think welding would remove the hardness from the metal or make them brittle. You might want to get some advice from some one familar with welding on a hardened object like these should be. Gene Davis

Thanks Gene. I'll be talking to a few welders to get their advice.

The steering wheel has a tapered shaft plus a key.The shaft is allso hollow.A gear puller with a thick washer does a nice job.oliver steering wheels for a super 77 will work fine. There is a threaded nut holding it all on.If it has the correct nut it could be capped so you can't see the threads.

I appreciate it Larry. Ever done work on the two "pinned followers" that ride in the wide threads of the worm gear inside the steering box? They're worn and mis-shaped so steering is very sloppy. Maybe weld a bead on each and shape to fit tighter? Gary
