Our church has an old 1973 White (make) dump truck. It had a broken line coming out of the hydraulic pump. I replaced the line, and now the bed will not go up. I AM NOT a mechanic, and know nothing whatsoever about hydraulic systems. It has dual rams. The bed used to go up before this problem. Do I need to prime the pump ? Do I need to bleed the rams, and if so how ? Any and ALL suggestions will most certainly be welcome. I would really appreciate any e-mail with suggestions, information on how hydraulic systems work or URL's to same, pictorial breakdowns on general hydraulic systems etc. Thanks in advance - Rick

If the line you replaced was the larger diameter of the two connected to the pump it is the suction line. The line would need to be flooded in order for the pump to draw fluid from the tank to which it should be connected. The pump normally should be able to handle a little bit of air if its not too badly worn. Running the pump without the discharge connected (into a bucket) will sometimes clear the suction line.
Good luck, Dave
