I HAVE A HONDA HT 3813 TRACTOR. RECENTLY WHILE OPERATING IT I START IT COLD. I RUN IT FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES AND ALL OF A SUDDEN IT REVS TO FULL THROTTLE EVEN WITH THE THROTTLE SWITCH ALL THE WAY DOWN. THE CHOKE LEVER AND THROTTLE LINKAGE IS OPERATING FINE. CLEAN AIR FILTER, NEW PLUGS, GOOD GAS. NO ONE AT LAWN EQUIPMENT DEALER ABLE TO SUGGEST PROBLEM. I COULD BRING IT IN AND GET CHARGED FOR PICK UP AND TROUBLE SHOOTING BUT I AM BAFFLED BY THIS PROBLEM. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. ANY COMMENTS WOULD GREATLY BE APPRECIATED. THANK YOU

I have just purchased a 2nd hand Honda HT 3813. This unit also has an unexplainable accelleration problem as described exactly previously.
Any ideas?

I also am experiencing the identical problem with my HT 3813. Any information I could get on this problem would be appreciated.

Found your sudden accelleration problem while searching for sudden accelleration problems with automobiles. Don't know how much help this may prove to you regarding your tractor, but sudden accelleration has been a problem in the automobile industry for quite some time. My new Ford Taurus (in 1989) had episodes which kept it in the dealership garage more than in my driveway. Working at a hospital and needing transportation daily, I purchased a used car just to have dependable transportation each day while waiting for my new car to be repaired. Three times they replaced the "main computer brain" that controls accelleration and decelleration -- in other words, when the gas pedal is depressed, the engine revvs and the car speeds forward when in gear. But, when no foot is on the gas pedal and the engine revvs full throttle for no reason there's deadly consequences unless the car is equipped with a standard gear shift instead of automatic gear shift. Standard gear shift allows one to disengage the forward gear and the engine will still be revving full throttle but one can then turn off the engine. This is what happened to me -- several times. Fortunately, my car had a standard gear shift, and on one occasion I was pulling to a stop AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP REPAIR GARAGE, to tell them that the car was acting like it was going bad AGAIN when it went into sudden accelleration right there with waiting customers and employees all staring at me like I was a nutty female driver. Everyone heard the engine revving and I stepped out of the car (it was in neutral) to show that my foot was not on the gas. They had a couple of "experts" come to look at the car from their home in Detroit and they fixed it again. This time I sold the car, advising the new buyer of the problem and giving the paperwork to them. One of my patients at the hospital was the son of a mechanic and hearing my problem he said the auto manufacturers place that computer chip too close to the hottest part of the engine and an overheating problem 'fries' the computer's brains and sudden accelleration occurs. Whenever I hear of unexplained accidents resulting from sudden accelleration incident -- and there have been many and involving many makes of automobiles -- the only ones that the driver walks away from are the ones with standard gear shift because they are able to disengage the clutch and the engine may be revving but the car isn't going anywhere. There's a chance this may be what's happening with
your tractor. Good luck, and be careful!

Regards,
Vivian T.
