Still having problems with getting the Hyd pump to work. Have removed suction line filter completely. However, I have noticed that fluid still has a milky color to it. I am thinking that there must still be alot of water in it. I have drained and refilled it several times so far. This tractor has not been used for several years is there a better way to clean/purge water out of the transmission. I am beginning to think the hyd pump is bad but it is new, two weeks old. I have tried everything I can think of and tried all suggustions so far. I feel if I can get the Hyd work this would be a fine tractor.

thank you all for your support and help. Turns out the cap was left in Hyd Pump on the suction line side. No wonder the fluid wasn't moving. I dumped and cleaned the tranny and valves and filled with new oil and it is now working great, really great. Now I can fix the rest of it with the knowledge that this will be a good tractor. Next is the Clutch and new brakes. I noticed that it is running on 2 cylinders as I think an injector is bad. I wonder how much trouble that will be to replace.

My question would be, are you certain that you have no oil flow or is it that your lift is not raising? Most Longs will have a remote valve. Does your have one and if it does is there any strain when you move it either way?

The reason why I am asking is that there is a dump valve located under the seat that sometime stick in the up position. When it does you will have no lift at all. The hex plug that covers this valve can be removed with a 1 1/16" end wrench. There will be a large but weak spring under this plug and the valve is rather large and hollow. Remove, clean and reinstall.

Also, when the hydraulic filter has been in service for long periods of time they should be replaced. As it has been mentioned, they coat up and not very easily cleaned. Since it has been a number of years since I was a Long dealer, it seem that there was two drain plugs for the trans/hyd. fluid.

Just wondering if the "milky" is air bubbles from a leak in the suction side of the system. Check the gasket on the cap for the suction line strainer- should be on right side of the engine in the larger line. Also, check where the line leaves the transmission underneath.

I am not sure from your post if you have drained entire system or just hyd. line. You say it is still milky. You drain entire system of oil from plug under transmission and clean filter. Refer to earlier posts about this procedure. If you open the valve I refer to as the bleeder, are you getting any oil flow at all? If you are, the pump is moving oil. In my 445(same lift as 460) I once found a piece of an o-ring in one of the pressure relief valves on the lift. I removed it and the lift immediately worked. I also had to replace the big o-ring around the piston in the lift once. Before doing anything else though , I would make sure to have oil flowing to the lift. Once you get oil moving you can check for other possibilities. Don't forget about magic washer.
