Hello,

We recently purchased a 1980 IMT 539. It's been running well. We are now having problems with the hydraulics. It was working well, raising and lowering perfectly, no sinking effect. Life was good. Now, nothing. Absolutely no lift at all.

We have taken off the lift cover. The mechanism there appears to be okay. We ran the tractor with the lift cover removed but with the hydraulic fluid in the center housing. We could see the fluid moving around from the pump activity, but nothing ever came out of the stand pipe.

Should we expect fluid to come out of the stand pipe when the lift cover is removed?

What should the fluid look like? Ours is a creamy yellow.

Is there a filter on the hydraulic pump? We haven't been able to find one and our service manual makes no reference to it.

Will parts for a MF35 hydraulic pump work with our pump?

Are there some other tests we can run to try to issolate the problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

cindy

my uncle had the same problem on his 539.he peurchased an old grey gold ferguson and planned to swap the back half of the tractors.it seems that most of the parts are interchangable but it may be worth cheaking it out.

First off from the sounds of things you need to change your hydraulic fluid, and whatever filters there are. You have water in the fluid.

Its obviously not the pump.We had the same thing happen to a MF135 (near enough to a MF35X with square tinwork!) We had no time to repair the tractor ourselves, so we called the dealer out. It turned out to be the lift control valve. He put us a new one in and we never had any more trouble with it.
