I am looking for the original paint colors for a B.F. Avery Model V. I believe it is an earlier model, but I have not found the serial number yet.

Was this on a BF Avery V? I talked with a fellow in Lafayette, Indiana the other day who says the serial numbers on his tractor are further toward the front of the tractor, almost even with the carburetor. Someone has at sometime in the past bolted a piece of angle iron on the frame rail in this area for some reason on my tractor. I am going to remove it this weekend and see if the serial #'s are there.

Rick is right on the location. they are on top of
the right side rail. These numbers are hand-stamped
and sometimes hard to read. Get out your pocket
knife and a wire brush and start digging. Good luck.

I've took the top side frame rail down to the metal for about a foot in the area around the clutch bell housing. There are no visible numbers there. Could it be that these numbers might have been in different locations over the years?

The serial number is stamped on the top of the right side frame rail about even with the clutch bell housing. The paint colors and serial numbers are listed on the following web site:

I've looked in the area you have described but there are no visible numbers there. How big would the numbers be? They could have been filled in by paint, since the tractor has been repainted at some time in the past. I have also looked on the right side of the gear case, but have not seen anything there either.
