there was no such thing as an earthworm tractor. The tractor in the movie "alexander botts and the earthworm tractor" was actually a caterpillar RD8.

The Saturday Evening Post carried a series of stories about the fictitious Earthworm Tractor Company's hotshot salesman and troubleshooter, Alexander Botts. Here's a link to a sample story...

Great movie, also a great book (actually a collection of stories written for a newspaper. I loved Joe E. Brown in the movie as Botts. The "Earthworm" tractor in the movie was actually a Caterpillar.

The Earthworm tractor that Alexander botts sold and demonstrated was Catepillar under the Earthworm name. The author eluded to it several times by naming certain parts the Cat nomenclature. I loved the books, wish I still had them.
