Fiat Diesel Tractor

A friend recently aquired an old Fiat diesel (4cyl.n/a) tractor... I'm afraid I don't know the exact model or a lot of details at this time, but I can probably find some out.

Anyways, he piled some cash into it but now has found that the single-stage clutch is rather useless for his PTO driven snowblower he wanted to use and even in low range it drives too fast.

Now he wants to sell it to me, and I am considering it.

It is ugly, dented, rusty looking but sound. Runs excellent, engine fluids and filters all changed, new battery(batteries?), new front tires, one new rear tire, new tie rods.... has a loader that needs some rebuilding and new mounts as it was installed by a hack-farmer with wood pieces for some reason.... very dangerous in my opinion... extremely sloppy.

What is it worth? I am not looking for a nice resto project or anything, quite the opposite, I need a beater loader tractor for bulk salt for my snowplowing and salting business, also for grading gravel driveways etc. What should I offer?

Also having starter problems (didn't go into detail). Is there a decent place to buy new or rebuilt parts from for these things?

I think I may have repaired this very tractor in my shop a few years back. There never was many of them tractors in the west michigan area. I worked on one for a guy from bear lake and it was in very, very, ruff looking condition. This one was a Hesston tractor, (same thing) It was once oned by Zeihms. It was a 966 if I remember right. Call me and I could look it up in old repair records 231-757-0064

I should have been more specific I think! The tractor is in Bear Lake, Ontario (north of Huntsville), and came originally from Niagara on the Lake, Ontario.

I doubt it is the same unit, but good call and thankyou anyways.

To get an honest opinion from anyone here, knowing the model number would be really helpfull. In the meantime you can look at this link to get some info and make your own opinion of this brand of tractor.

Yeah, I figured you would need more info... the problem is that the tractor is sitting at the cottage up on Bear Lake, about 4-5 hours from me. It looks to have had a few paintjobs over the years, so there is not a decal to be seen on it. The front grille is banged up a bunch and has no nose emblem either. There is, however, some sort of ID tag on the dashboard that says FIAT on it and a bunch of other stuff I didn"t get a chance to read.

Can anyone send me to a link of Fiat tractor photos? Maybe I can ID it that way. Otherwise, it will probably be a few weeks before I can get back up north to see it.

Any ballpark estimates? Year ranges? Anything? I know I am grasping at straws here but at this point straws are better than nothing.
