I follow the Farmall forum and have a Farmall 140 but know of a Deutz 6005 that probably hasn't been run in eight to ten years (been sitting in the woods at a local golf course). It is tempting to see if I can buy this tractor for low bucks. What's the power rating, transmission, other facts? Anybody out there with this tractor? Air-cooled diesels - any worse than other diesels at waking from long term hibernation? Are parts readily available for this series? Thanks for any thoughts and information.

the Deutz D 6005 only was built in 1967, it had a Deutz F4L812 Dieselengine with 58 DIN/HP at 2300 rpm. Tranny was a Deutz TW 55 ,9 fwd, 3 rev.
There is a nothing to say against aircooled engines in tractors, Deutz was a very big seller in Germany until introducing of the DX range which had very poor 5 cyl. engines (DX 85 and DX 90). This cost Deutz marketshare and they had been bought of by SAME...even manufacturer of tractors with aircooled engines.

Bernhard, thanks for the information. Did the 6005 and 5005 share the same engine? Any thoughts on why it was only built one year? Did it have quality problems? As a young man in the mid-1960's, I once plowed a field with a 30 HP Deutz tractor and was impressed with the air-cooled diesel's power and torque.

I didnīt know of any major probs. In 1967 a tractor with 60 hp was a really big one..Deutz had a hole between D 5505 and D 8005, and the 6005 filled it to satisfy the customers. As far as I know the D 5505 (52HP) was replaced by the D 6005 (58 HP) The D 6005 and D 5505 shared the same engine, the F 4 L 812...but the D 6005 had Directinjection and an other tranny, the TW 55, which could also been used for tractors with more HP. The reason, why it was built only 1 year, was that the D 6006 was introduced in 1968

Bernhard, thanks for your information. What changed with the introduction of the D 6006?

I was wondering if you knew how easily a deutz engine could be modified for pulling. I want to build something different and have long thought about using a Deutz, but was told they were not that easy to turn up - like an IH for example. Any thoughts on really turnig one up, or making a stroker out of one?

thanks,

Matt

Matt give me an e-mail at Onecabbage@aol.com. I pull a 130-06 Deutz in enhanced stock and a 80-06 Deutz in a local Pro-Farm class which is close to a Limited Light Super Stock class. They are fun to run as so few Deutz pull and the 130 has its share of wins. What size Deutz and what class are you thinking about? I will put you in contact with the great people that have helped me. John
