My father-in-law just bought an old Hough Payloader, and Id like to find some info about it. It has a flat head 6 cyl engine with an updraft carb. It steers with the front wheels and drives with the rear. The Carter carb is in need of a rebuild, can parts be gotten for it ? Can anyone tell me more along the lines of what it is, where to look for numbers, etc etc ?

Any help is appreciated.

Ihave a hough payloader that seems to be like the one you are talking about. My loader is around a 1952. it is a model hf. the tag on my loader that shows the mod. and ser. number is in the center of the guage board. This loader has been in my family since the late 1960s. I am also looking for a part for my loader. I have a broken left axel. I am having a hard time finding one.I do have a few spare engine parts . Ihave a spare head ,intake manafold and a few other parts. R. Owen Fairfield, Ill.

I will go along with the Hercules since it is a 6 cylinder as some of the smaller ones with 4 cylinder engines were Waukesha. Most likely some form of a JX or second choice a QX Hercules. Do you have a name on the carburetor? Look also for a flat spot that is milled in the block that will have the engine model and serial number stamped in it. This will be on the side opposite the manifold near the top of the block. How about a block casting number?

Tang 419,

It is probably a HERCULES engine.
