We rebuilt motor in our BF Avery Model A (with distributor). It would never start so we backed off several months & now back at it. Switched carburetors Tillotson to Mavel Schebler. Starts right up but the governors don't seem to be operating correctly. With motor running and you put tractor in gear motor will die if clutch isn't slowly & precisely let out. We didn't address the governors while rebuilding motor. I thought I had every repair manual available for this tractor but there isn't a schemetic for the governors.
The bowl float needle valve was adjusted 1/4 turn & returned to the original setting out of the box. Now there is slight leak of gas from around the screw. By blowing on the intake side of carb it also causes it to seep. What to do? New carburetor didn't come with schemetic I would like to get one. Haven't spoken to Mr Zimmerman (carb was purchased from) as of yet.

Sounds like a carburetor rather than governor problem. Was the manifold planed so its tight against head. Does having the choke on partways help? Is the gasline wide open between the carb and the tank? Maybe dump some seafoam in the gas and let it run for a while to see if that helps. Put some teflon tape around that needle valve to see if that slows your gas leak.

Intake manifold was plained. Haven't tried the choke closed partially. Gas line is wide open new line, inline filter & shut off valve. Is Seafoam similar to Stabilizer?

Seafoam seems to be better at cleaning. If the governor is working; you should be able to see the linkage moving as you work the throttle or put a load on it. My brother thought his governor was shot but it turned out the linkage was rubbing against the block so the governor couldn`t work.
