Bolens engine question

I have an 18 horse Bolens with a Kohler. Next to the carburator is a unit that has no fuel lines going to it, yet it dumps fuel into the carburator through a rupper hose conecting the two of them. When this happens it stalls the engine, it only happens once in a while. Does anyone have an idea as to what this unit is, and is there an adjustment to keep so much fuel out of the carburator?
Thanks, Darrin Edson

I think you are talking about the crankcase breather, which shouldn't have anything to do with dumping gas into to carburetor.

It sounds like dirt in the carburetor's inlet valve needle and seat.

Below is a link to the engine service manual. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view or print it. Take a look at it, and identify the part you are talking about, and post back!
