I am looking at a Leyland 384 offered for sale locally. The owner states that the three point hitch and the PTO do not work and he feels that there is a pin sheered in the transmission that is causing this. Does this sound correct? I thought that the PTO would have been direct drive and not hydraulically operated as is the Three Point hitch.
Any help would be great.

Thank you both for the information. I also found another site that had a forum on these tractors. A search revealed that if the PTO and the Three Point Hitch do not operate, it is probably the coupler mentioned. I think I will go ahead with this and try to fix. Thanks again.

Bought a 4/65 nuffield, with same problem.worn splines on inside end of pto shaft. If it is what the guy says it ,its not that diffuclt to fix .Easy with workshop manual. The back end has 54 ltrs of oil in it. If the tractor runs well it would be worth fixing.384 is 3.8 ltr 70hp 1970.Hope this helps.

Hydraulics are driven by the pto shaft. Have they been put in gear by the lever at the rear of the tractor? Has the pto hand clutch been returned to the engaged postion? There were problems with the coupler in the pto gearbox, easy to fix if not, suspect clutch problems.
