I drive a 1919 Type G 20-40hp Advance Rumely Oil Pull for a museum here in Manitoba. The last 2 years I've run it, when it runs it "slobbers" Oil out of the crankcase thru the vent on the top of the block at the front of the engine. It does it when it's cold, when it's hot, doesn't matter. I'm running straight 30weight oil in the engine. I've been told that those old Oil Pulls like 50weight better. If I went up to 50, would this put a stop to it?? Any other help or suggestions would be appreciated....Thanx!!!

Cory the oil coming from the crank case did not bother me one bit when I drove it this last summer with you..... .a few black specks here and there are cheaper to fix then a run bearing....
The 50 grade oil does sound better though and the correct level will also reduce the problem as mentioned above.

are you sure you dont have too much oil in it. if you dont have the site glass at the bottm of the crank case cover it is easy to put too much oil in it. they dont take very much oil. only a little over a gallon if i remember iam going to be changing oil in my 20-40 this week so i will see then. you can take the inspec. cover off when you put oil in. when the crank throw is at the bottom the oil should be about half to two thirds up on the bottom conrod cap bolt.

cory, i'm not an expert, but a friend of mine collects the older tractors and he runs nothing but 50 weight in them. i don't know how an oil pull oils in the crankcase, but on our mogul if the drain is plugged at the bottom it will run too much oil in the case and especially if the mechanical oiler is adjusted to pump too much oil.
