I need a throw out bearing for my 1936 Silver King. The one in it says Nice Co. 4840. I have chacked on replacements and they come up obsolete. Any one have one, know a replacement, or have a cross listing? Thanks

I have the collar. The old bearing is really sloppy and has welds all over it. So,what I'm doing is measuring the shaft(spline that goes through the bearing and collar. Its od is 1.55. I guess I need a bearing that has a slightly larger id. The collar that the bearing goes into and must fit snug has a seat with an id of 2.59. Thickness of the old but worn bearing is .62 in. I hope that I'm explaining this better this time.

Do you need just the bearing, or the whole assembly... the bearing AND the "carrier" that slides on the tranny's "snout".

If you need just the BEARING, what are it's dimensions... I.D., O.D., and thickness?

A common throwout bearing for these old machines is SKF part # N1136. It's I.D. is 1.75", it's O.D. is 3.135", and it's thickness is .7445".

Is that possibly what you need? If not, post the dimensions of your old bearing. I have the SKF clutch release bearing cross reference right here beside me, with 61 other possibilities!

SKF throw out bearings near that size: in reply to tractor-ernie, 11-09-2006 06:31:34
# N3066 I.D. 1.4990" O.D. 2.6415" Thick .6190"

# N3055 I.D. 1.4995" O.D. 2.5130" Thick .6490"

# N3042 I.D. 1.5000" O.D. 2.6902" Thick .7728"

# N3043 I.D. 1.5000" O.D. 2.6902" Thick .7728"

# N1054 I.D. 1.5000" O.D. 2.8300" Thick .6820"

# N4006 I.D. 1.5200" O.D. 2.4850" Thick .5750"

Are any of these close enough to work?

It looks like the N3066 is pretty close, but a little larger on the O.D. According to the diagram, that is the MAXIMUM overall ID of the bearing, measured at the "crimp", behind the front face. Are you measuring the front face, or the overall I.D. of the crimped area?

Let me know what you figure out!

I have the exact measurements of the collar and spline. The spline that goes through the bearing is 1.55 in od. The collar is 2.59 in id. Do you have anything about that size? Thanks

Let's try this again... in reply to tractor-ernie, 11-17-2006 08:53:22
You need JUST the throwout bearing, correct, and not the "carrier" inside the bearing that slides or the tranny input "snout" (or equivalvent)?

What is the correct ID of the bearing?

What is the correct OD of the bearing?

What is the correct thickness of the bearing?

(I'm not understanding what the measurement of the splines has to do with anything, as the bearing slides on the "tranny snout", rather than the pilot shaft splines, correct???)

Get back to me with those measurements, and I'll take another "stab" at it!

I have the collar in which the bearing fits. I am not measuring the old bearing becaase its very worn and has welds all over it. The collar seat (in which the bearing sits) is 2.59 id. I understand that the bearing should fit snuggly into that space. Then the collar with the bearing slides over the shaft (spline) that goes to the transmission. That shaft is 1.55 od. The old bearing that is really worn is .62 in. wide.

Ernie,

I sounds like that unit is made backwards of conventional throwout bearings.

Any chance you could post a picture, or email me a picture of the unit?
