I don't know much about odd tractors, BUT with seat, steering wheel and pedals facing backwards, wouldn't this be some sort of forklift or special machinery set-up? What could you do with it? Could it go back to standard lay-out? Sure is nice straight tin on it. Think in current issue or last one maybe, of Antique Power mag is an article on this tractor and company. Might want to check it out.

The tractor was "farmerized", and had a farm loader similar to a Du-al mounted backwards.

It would not take much to return it to as-original.

Aparently, it is #183 of 200 made in 1945, by special permission of the War Production Board.

These were apparently the last Co-ops built at Shelbyville.

I have other interests, and will be selling it, I hope someone will be interested in it, and want to restore it.

Bob, I forgot where this was at. I'm in NE Indiana, is it anywhere near? What kind of money do you wanna ask for it? You sure it can be changed back? I couldn't use it that way for sure.

I think I suggested it was a model D3 last time.
So I would guess the serial number means it is a
D3 tractor 183 of the 200 or so built in 1945-46.
D3 was a special model of the No. 3 Co-op that
was built with permission from the War Board.

That seems to make sense, doesn't it. So who/where built that series of tractors?

Tractors were built in Shelbyville by the National
Farm Machinery Cooperative.

One of the confusions I"ve found is that one account (which I neglected to identify) stated that all the "new" models (B-1 etc) were built at Shelbyville...
But Farmers Union Central Exchange was building Co-ops in Minneapolis/South St Paul, and with Hetherington and Bernier involved must have been some of the "new" models??...and if so, their 1948 redesign (the "styled" S2 and S3), would be a redesign of the B"s etc., and not a redesign of the original #2 and #3???
