In my toolshed I have a Gehl selfpropelled forage chopper equipted with a two row corn head. I am looking to get rid of it, but I have no idea what it is worth. It appears to be built on a Ford tractor. I know it probably sounds like it is homebuilt, but I called Gehl last fall and they said they did make a few of them in the 1950's. If anyone knows or has a guess at what it is worth it would be helpful. Or should I just take it to the scrape yard? Any help would be appreciated. If anyone would be interested let me know also, we could work out a deal. Thanks for the help

David, I have had quite a lot of experence with Gehl pull type choppers, but no experence with the self propelled models. However, I do have a copy of most of the advertising on the different models.

Gehl built two different model self propelled choppers from the mid 50's to the mid 60's. The early model had small tires on the front and they were also the steering tires. The drive tires were on the back. This model was called the Chop All.

The later model was bigger and had the smaller steering tires on the back, and the drive tires on the front. This model was call the Chop King. From your description I would say you have a Chop All self propelled model. If you need more information as to engines used, etc. let me know and I can look the info. up.

I do not have any interest in owning one, nor do I have any idea what one might be worth. Do you have a antique show near you? Maybe that would be something to display as I am sure there isn't one person in a hundred that have ever see one.

Just a thought.

FWIW-the only catalog ref I've got that lists Gehl only shows one "forage harvester" with an unidentified LeRoi engine (no years of production), and under "harvesters" it doesn't show anything with a Ford engine, but these parts catalogs are never complete. If you can ID the engine it might be the most valuable part.
