Is there any way to identify a Chrysler engine (I think) by the serial number on the block? I"m not even sure if this is the right board to post on. Is there a site that has Chrysler serial number information? Thanks.

The smaller Chrys flathead 6's 230-217 CI etc are 23" long. The larger flathead 6's 236-250-265 CI are 25" long. That narrows it down some.

My 1956 Motor's Repair Manual lists [P25-2...] as a 1954 Plymouth 6 cylinder flathead. Early production listed @ 217.8 cu.in. and late production listed @ 230.2 cu.in. I have a 1955 Plymouth engine sn P26-317732 with a casting date of 5-31-55 on the block. The crankshaft casting number is 1557708 making it a 230.2 cu.in. (I retrieved the engine from a Massey Harris combine-can't remember the model number)
Unfortunately, I can't locate the sn breakout for the P25 runs.Hope this helps a little.

I bought a new 1954 Plynouth in 1953 when they came out that year. It had that 218 engine. Made a lot of trips to Fort Bragg NC since I was in the Army. My wife wanted me to buy a Ford and they were nice looking too, but it was the first year for their overhead valve engine. My Army neighbor had bought the Ford and the cam had worn off some lobes in less than a year. I think Ford installed a new cam. His wasn't the only one. Hal

If you could post a picture and a serial number it might help. I have access to some numbers if it is a Chrysler-made engine.

Are we talking six cylinder or eight? Do you have casting numbers? J.
