I am trying to figure out what sort of a tractor my Grandfather had in the early 1950s. My recollection is probably faulty in some parts but I hope someone may read it and recognize the type. The machine's engine was mounted at the very front, with the starter pulley facing the front. That would have made the crankshaft run parallel to the frame. I do not remember anything about the transmission. The front wheels were the mains, close behind the engine. These were tall; about three feet. They were very close together, in fact the tractor was unstable and "tipsy" because of this feature. For some reason I keep thinking there was a large black steering wheel, mounted flat, above and a little to the rear of the front wheels. This is so wierd, however, that I am sure it is wrong. Mixed in with thoughts of a steering wheel is a recollection of two or three control rods extending back from the engine ending by passing through holes in a spreader between long handle bars, and a thumb operated throttle lever on the right handle bar end. I think this is more apt to be correct. There was a ratcheting lever somewhere, (above the handle bars?), which controlled the cultivators which the tractor carried, though I cannot remember either the control, or the tools. Small rear wheels on a trailing truck were attached to a pivot at the rear end of the frame. The rear wheel assembly included a metal bucket seat of the same style as those sported by horse drawn implements and early tractors. This machine was about seven or eight feet long overall, I think, and except for the tires and controls was paris green. Even the engine was green. Anyone recognize it? Fred
