I have a similar problem and need some help!
Just acquired a Hough Payloader model HE serial #55289.
What kind of engine is in it? Has no oil filter that I can find.
How much does this unit weigh?
What kind of distributor? Can find any markings!
I send for manuals.. but do not have them yet

Well, what engine kinda depends on who you ask...
A couple parts catalogs say the HE came with a Wauk FC...
A couple others imply other engine options might"ve been Wauk 180DLC (4cyl diesel), Herc IXB or Herx JX4, both 4cyl...
I"d guess the Wauk FC was the most likely, buy I can"t tell you how to ID it if there"re no tags left; if you can find casting numbers on the block or head make a new post, asking for engine ID, and someone"ll have the info. Good luck.

This reminds me of my deer hunting days--hit all around what I was shooting at but never hit it...
I find no listing for HRGC in my stuff; I do find listings for HR and HRC, both showing came with Herc JXD (4cyl, so not yours) Herc QXLD 6cyl gas (could be yours if has original engine) and Herc DIX6D diesel, obviously not yours. The QXLD shows as 3.438 x 4.250 (314/32 x 41/4, if my math is correct).
Have no idea how to ID if QXLD, except QX series are supposed to be flatheads; if nothing more helpful shows up, might repost question how to ID QXLD, with desc of assessory drives, etc, on yours. Good luck..

How about some pictures or some more info on the loader or casting numbers.

The only things I can see cast are on the block,HI-CHROME and A238.I will have to get the model # off the loader in a couple of days.

I am trying to buy an H30 Hough with a flat-head 6 cyl gas Hercules engine that also says CHROME E100 on the side of it. The fuel pump is the current hangup. I want to run an electric pump to get it mobile again until I can rebuild the original--to get it out of the seller's yard. Does anyone know what fuel pressure this engine required? Thanks, Doug.

The Loader I have I have operated using a gravity feed fuel tank and have bypassed the fuel pump.

Thanks for the response.
It turns out the carb is leaking too. I rigged a temporary gravity feed setup which appeared to be working, but gas was leaking straight out of the carb inlet throat. I never got as far as cranking it over because of this.
Any idea on having it rebuilt? Is it affordable? Is a kit available?

I'm actually trying to buy this thing for $700. It's not a 4wd. Assuming it runs and operates, does that sound like a decent price?

Thanks, Doug.

I gave a $1000 for the one I have in 2000. It is 4wd and I beleive I spent about $300 on sending the carb off to have it rebuilt. The machine is strong but when something breaks and I need to find parts it has taken me months at a time which has been the biggest draw back. The carb was a problem getting parts for but if you decide to get it I can try to locate where I sent it. Our local mechanic suggested I switch it over to lp. They said that has been the most economical way off keeping flat heads in jeeps running. Chap
