I just bought a belarus at an auction and the old owner hasn"t drlivered the book on it yet. Trouble is the tractor worked fine for a week. then refused to start. When I checked the batteries they were new and fully charged. When I checked the power at the starter it read only 12 volts,[ The batteries are hooked in series,so it should read 24 volts at the starter} I had the starter checked and it is fine. There is a relay type box between the batteries that must be stopping the system from reaching the 24 volts. Do you have any ideas on what it could be and how to fix it.

I have an old 820 that had a 12 volt starter from the factory. Never really spun the engine fast enough. I replaced it with the delco gear reduction starter. big improvement! Got it from Kelleys in Texas.

That is a parallel switch between the batteries and could be your problem.Remove its cover and look for a 50 amp strip fuse that could be burned in half.Turn the cover over there may be some spares in there.Best way to solve this problem is to put a 12 volt starter on it and hook both batteries together.

Google a search for Belarus tractor starters, there are a couple of places selling 12 volt Minsk starters. There is also an outfit out of Texas that sells them with American made Delco parts. The early 500 series Belarus had 12 volt starters, the later 500-800-900 tractors were 24 volt start.
