I have located a tractor called Worthington Mower.
It has a 6 cylinder engine and small diameter dully rear tires. There are some indications that it was manufactured in PA. Anyone with info please
respond. Thank you

I own a 1949 Worthington, much like the one you discribed, along with another one a few years newer. I am currently looking for information on the tractors. I have setup a yahoo.com club for collectors of worthington tractors. All are welcome to come.

I have a Worthington based on 1927 Model T. The frame is shortened rear axle bolted to it. A planitary type reduction gear between trans & differential. Flat steel wheels on Model T centers. Was restored about 15 years ago . . . I just dug it out of my garage and am cleaning it up and trying to decide if to keep or sell? Does anybody else have one of these? What about the registery? Any ideas on values. Thanks.

I just acquired a Worthington tractor by Worthington Mower Co. My unit has a 4 cylinder Continental "Red Seal" engine and the radiator shroud has RED SEAL reading down each side.

It has 16 inch dual drivers located underneath the engine, a seat and a fairly long chassis with a miniature "pickup box" with a tailgate that opens. I has two 16 inch (5.50 x 16) inch rear tires. It is a rear steer unit.

It also has a built in hydraulic pump with a 2-way valve connected for a single acting cylinder. It looks as if someone was in the process of making a push snowplow blade with hydraulic lift, but never completed the project. There is a curved yoke pivoted underneath with a pivot hole for a blade or something, but no blade. There are two aircraft (Grumann) hydraulic cylinders hooked to it, the lugs on the yoke "C" clamped on but not welded.

There are no mower units with it.

There does not seem to be any provisions for Power Take-Off for a rotary type mower or other accessory.

It was given to me by an older (mid 70's?) friend who's (late) father owned it. My friend also has a "CleTrac" crawler that I hope to acquire.

I was going to try to start it, hooked up a 6V battery and cranked it over, but the gas cap was missing and the tank pretty well crudded up. The fuel sediment bowl gasket tore when I removed it, so I gave up and winched it onto a trailer and hauled it "home". I wrote down the Model number and Serial number but forgot where I wrote it down. It is at my farm in Eastern Colorado, but I live in Denver.

Getting it running is not high on my priority list of things to do right now. I am in the process of building a "big tin shed" building to house this and many other of my "toys" and this will wait until that project is completed.

Worthington tractors were made in Stroudsburg,Pa. until 1949. They were bought out by Jacobson an continued for a short time. The early Worthingtons used Ford engines ( Model T,Model A,B and C )in 1939 they switched to Chrysler straight sixes. They also used much of the Dodge pickup truck sheetmetal.I own a 1945 Worthington Chief (serial#C 1614 ) that was used by the military to mow airfields and was painted olive drab. There is a Worthington Registry. I have more info if you are interested.

I understand Worthington continued to assemble tractors designed to pull gilf course mowers long after the Model A fords were gone.
They used whatever drivetrains were available. I have heard rumors of Jeep, Hercules, and Dodge powered Worthingtons.

I can be reached at littlel@gte.net.
