I need to know any info about a leyland tractor. It is a model 272 with loader, deisel. Present owner took it in on trade and knows nothing about it. I assume it is British, is it approx 70hp, are parts available and is it a decent tractor? I cant find any mention of this tractor on the net which is rare. I am going to look at it this afternoon and would like a little background. I also assume it is metric? Any help would be great.

yes, you are right it is british it was made by a british company in lancashire, who also now make rover cars and land rover. it is fitted with the leyland 4/98 engine putting out around 72hp, there is also a 4 wheel drive version called the 472. They were made from 1976 to about 1982, although a version called the 270 was made long before that. they are a fairly good but cheap tractor, parts are widely available for the in ireland, their replacement parts are made by unipart. i have several of them myself, i have a 272 synchro, a 245 standard and the newer version of the same tractor the marshall 802 turbo and the 904 6 cylinder. in general they are fairly popular were im from and were used for years by british gas and the water board etc. here in ireland a good clean 272 synchro with a q-cab etc would fetch £2000.00 sterling. i have a operation and repair manual for the 272 which im willing to sell, i assume your american, e-mail me for more details.

yours faithfull British Leyland/Marshall Owner/Mechanic

Hello from Wisconsin, USA !

Do you still have that manual for sale? I just bought a JCB 3DII and need to rebuild it. I noticed that the steering pump and alternator are missing along with several other smaller parts. Can you find these easily overseas ?

Thanks,

Ron

I have a leyland 384(55hp) with a bucket and is a good tractor. Family owned from new and have had no problems at all.

I couldn't find a website either, but the guy at White's Supply in Houston, Tex says they are a distributor for Leyland wholesale only, you might call them and find out some sort of info for your area. White's covers Miss, La, and Tex.
