Now have tar-like black substance in my gas tank, fuel bowl connection, etc. due to my neglect in leaving gasoline in the tank for a period of months. Any recommendations on removal would be appreciated.

I use acetone. Put it in and slosh it around with a stick, or put a gallon in the tank open the valve so it flows to the carb. Fill the carb and let it set overnight in the tank and carb, then in the morning put gas in and use the tractor. The acetone will blend the varnish in the gas and burn it all up. I have found this to be easier than cleaning any part or tank by hand.

I just got an AEH Wisconsin that was heavily coated from old gasoline. I was able to remove most of the residue effortlessly by placing the carb, etc., in a pure solution of Simple Green for a couple of hours. I don't know if there are any side effects or not. I have not tried it in the tank, but I intend to try there too. The solution can be filtered and reused. If anyone knows negative results from Simple Green, I would like to know. Larry
