Anyone familiar with Leland tractors? Reliability, parts availability, value compared to Ford 8N?

Dave: Leyland tractors grew out of Nuffield tractors. Leylands were part of British Motor Corporation and also made trucks (sold in the UK) and Big engines for stationary applications. Leylands had a somewhat checkered career, at least here in Canada. The early Nuffields were just about bulletproof, but the last model of Nuffield had a very poor engine. This engine also wound up in the first Leylands, was a 230 ci four cylinder and trying to get a steady 70 hp out of them, blew a lot of them all over the countryside. We had a Leyland 255, which was roughly equivalent to a Massey 65, same engine but detuned to max out at about 50 hp. It was a real good, economical tractor. There was a model 253 as well which had the Perkins 152, same as a 35 Massey. And smaller again was the 154(I think) which had come from the Nuffield Mini tractor and was meant to be a modernized Diesel powered competitor to the Ford 8N and /or the Ferguson. You can't really compare Leylands to a Ford 8N as they were produced as least

I have a Leyland 154. Great tractor but am having difficulty getting parts. About the same size as a 9n, but much more modern and powerful. All sorts of features not available on the 9n because it's older. Mine is a 1981.

If your still looking for an ignition switch for your 154 see if you can find an auto supplier who stocks or can get 'Domite' parts - they used to be Lucas Group. In their range of ignition switches they still have the one used on the 154. Its positions are Start+preheat, Preheat, Off, Start. They also list the starter motor solonoids and heaters.

I know a feller down the road with a Leland 2-70 turbo. Man does she power down. Kind of a stuck up fellow though. The son of a B won't even help me unload my hay wagons.
