Does anyone happen to know where i can find photos and/or information on a Lear big Boy tractor so that we might restore one? I am not 100% sure the name is right and I was told it was made by Chrysler before WWII.

A neighbor recently passed away and I bought this old tractor for a project for my now retired dad to work on as his Dad had one. I knew it was rather rare but I have had no luck in finding any info at all on this still running tractor that seems to be made up of 1 ton truck parts. It has 6 cylynder motor, 5 speed trans, with a ton differential. it is now red with no labels or stickers describing what it is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ronny mangrum
Franklin, tenn.

Ronny, The July/Aug 1997 issue of Antique Power magazine had a feature story on the Custom Tractor Corp which made the Custom tractor which was also sold under the Wards, Lehr's Big Boy, and Rockol names. Antique Power has back issues and can be reached at PO Box 838, Yellow Springs OHIO, 45387. Also, contact the Custom Tractor Club, 3516 Hamburg Rd, Eldorado, Ohio 45321 Customs (and the other names) were made from about 1947 to about 1955. They used Chrysler engines of various sizes, starting with the 217 cubic inch and went up to the 251 ci. The company changed hands several times and records are very poor, but it is believed that they made about 4500 tractors. I own a Custom Model 98 that was made in 1955 (I think) and has the Chrylser 251, plus the fluid drive (torque converter). Keep in touch and good luck. Richard
