A friend just bought an early 4-wheeler, 1940 (mower)model 38. The cast grille is rounded, like ones I see on model 41's. Has anyone seen this front on a '40? Would like to find out if it's factory or replaced.
Would also like to swap mail with other SKY members on line, and to find out if the club has any factory/dealer records in Ohio, etc. I have a R-38 myself, a real doll (NOT for sale)!!!

My father has an older Sk tractor sounding alot like your friend's. If I can find out anything on this subject, I'd be sure to let you know. I also believe my father is a newly joined member of that club.

You might want to check this site to make sure of the year. www.sckans.edu/~alan/silkinsn.html
I've seen some cases where the mower tractors got updates before the rest of the line. Silver Kings tend to be a mix and match of parts made into special models, so the serial no. is the only way to determine the year.

Got numbers, done that, it is definately a '40, but have never seen the grille on earlier than model 41 ('41 & later). Am hoping to talk to someone in Willard OH about possible factory records. Someone even painted the poor dear GREEN! Everything else is just right 'cept this grille question....

The 1938 had a cast grill in it some had the wire mesh have one of each as the grills would interchange and used up what was left of the model yr so some had mesh Jery
