I've asked before but I'll try again. I've had some responses but no luck on this unit of mine. Where is the serial number on this model? Is it stamped right on the unit or is it on a plate (which I do not have on this one, that's for sure)? Also, what are the 2 big holes for in the sides of the sheet metal panels that are found just behind the grille? Thanks.

Mike,
The serial number should be stamped into the top of the right frame rail at the rear next to where it mounts to the rear axle housing. The bracket which attaches the frame rail to the rear axle on many of these tractors have been broken. When repaired, sometimes the serial number is welded over. This was the case with my tractor. Fortunately it was a poor repair job and with carefull grinding and filing, I was able to recover the serial number.

The holes in the front sheetmetal are for implement mounting. If you remove the front grille you will find an ear on the steering gear casting which line up with the holes in the sheetmetal. A theaded shaft goes through the holes and a pipe spacer goes from the casting to the sheetmetal on each side.

Hope this answers some of your questions.

Good Luck,
Kent

Kent, I knew somebody out there would know for sure where that number is supposed to be. The attatching bracket seems to be pretty much original (if I remember correctly) with no visible welding etc. so I'll look real hard and even scrape off some paint layers next time I'm out. Also, the mystery of the panel holes is now solved. Thanks for your help.
