I inherited a very early 1900's era stationary baler. It has steel wheels, a 4x4 hopper, four large reduction gears to drive a centerline compactor (the imput to the gears is from a smooth external roller). It has a long wooden paddle on top that appears able to extend down into the hopper for separating individual bales for tieing. Old timer said he saw one used where a steam tractor hauled it to a lot, hooked up a long canvas belt, and let it run. Farmers would pull up horse drawn wagons of hay and pitched it in the hopper. He said he helieved three men on the bailer ran the machine. How do I identify the baler. Cannot find any ID plate or stamping. Where would I look for pictures to cross reference? Any and all help is appreciated.

I am looking for any information regarding a horse drawn hay baler that my dad has. It sounds like the one you have, maybe. His has a long wooden post sticking out the front (or back) and the mules or horses would walk in a circle to move the compacting mechanism and the men and boys would fork the hay into the shoot and my dad was in charge of tying off the bales. This may not be a very good desc., but if this sounds like yours, and you have any further info would love to pass it on to my dad, ie..pictures or other info.
Thanks!!
