There is a place in Sask. Canada at www.britishtractor.com that specializes in the Nuffield line.

I am looking at buying one myself right now and have heard that it really bombed when it came out and as a result the company dropped the Nuffield name the next year (1969). Part of the problem with the tractor was that it's styling was changed so much from the previous models. Mechanically the motor was supposed to run very rough, vibrate alot, and leak coolant even when run at normal operating temperature.

A few postings have knocked the tractor but I would like to hear from any "happy" owners.

In my case the tractor is needed for the occasional very heavy job but nothing that is time critical. I have owned two early 1960's british cars and did alot of work on them to keep them running with no problems.

At $5000 to $7000 less than another model in the same power range the 4/65 may be a good choice.

Looking to buy in the next 2 months so I would appreciate any advice.

I have a Nuffield 4/65 and have no problems with vibrations or anything else, although I have heard the same. Some people add a harmonic balancer to correct the problem, but I never needed anything like that.Email me anytime.

Johnny,
I have a Nuffield 4/65 and have run it on our 10 acres for a few years. Those people that knock the tractor are a little wrong. The problems about engine vibration are small. It comes from people reving the guts out of the tractor under light load. I have a two furrow reversible plough. I plough on medium land with 2 14" furrows at 12". Nuffy pulls happily in 3rd high at 12 to 1400 rpm and really lugs. This year on the potato harvester we had a problem. We had a heavy crop and the tractors running alongside the harvester could not go as slow as Nuffy. She was down at 600 rpm in first gear driving and pulling the harvester whilst the Major and the Ford 4600 were struggling to go slow enough on the trailers.
The problems you can get are with the lift, mine blocked the very fine intake filter but this was sorted quickly by removing the lift and cleaning the filter. I had water in the sump from a "worm hole" in a liner. Again the engine was stripped repaired and rebuit within 1 day. Vibration problems usually mean tin work fractures. My tractor is 1968 and has better tinwork than some a lot later. Do not be afraid of them. They can be a good buy. I have just bought a second one.
regards

Brian
PS You will develope big muscles though if you do not keep the steering components greased.
