I have a Leader Model D tractor that I want to restore, and am looking for parts sources. The engine is stuck, so will probably need oversize pistons, rings ect. Also, a question: this tractor has a Hercules IXB5 engine. What is the difference from a IXB3? It appears that they are both 133 cu. in. displacement. Are parts interchangable? Thanks for your help, Dean

Dean,
The IXB, IXB3, IXB5 all use the same valve train, timing gears and bearings. The "5" usually runs a higher compresion head- you have to check the code numbers on the head.
TRW and Perfect Circle both make a .083 oversize Ford 8N piston which has the correct wrist pin height and diameter for under $30.00 each - the Hercules pistons will run you about $140.00 each.
The Ford pistons have a dome which will increase your compresion, however, some clearancing may be needed on the head. Have fun!

I forgot to say that those Ford pistons are .020 over for IXB3 or IXB5.

I need to add that you should take special care to save all the bearings you can, because they're harder to find than a smooth running John Deere.
