I just lost the clutch in my tractor and I need any information I can get on how to change a clutch, unless there is a way to adjust the clutch and I just can't find it.I looks to me like I can pull the engine to do the job. Any ideas I need any help I can get.

Naw it'll need split John. I saw your other post over there. This tractor should be a Mitsubishi. The clutch will be more cheap at a car parts or clutch rebuilder.
When you get the clutch out take it to NAPA or some auto parts that will eye match it for you. Some of the tractors used the same clutch and pressure plates as a Mitsubishi pickup, some were the same as a Chevy Luv, some were Isusi pickup clutches.
I would'nt hunt one too hard from a dealer. The clutch from a tractor dealer will be somewhere around $350 or upwards, and from an auto store about $50-$75.
A clutch and brake rebuilder will get about $50-$60 for the clutch and pressure plate both.

Thanks Burrhead, I had two people tell me to try and get parts from Hayward Dist. but when I called them they told me they don't sell retail so I got hold of another tractor store near me who went to Hayward to get the parts. When I got the prices I was shocked. The clutch was going to be $400 and the pressure plate was going to be $400. The same tractor shop called me back this date and told me he was getting rebuilt parts out of Pennsulvania. The clutch will cost $135 and the pressure plate will cost $145. The prices you mentioned sound better I will check around. I was wondering if anyone knows where the place is in Penn. that sells rebuilt parts. If anyone does please give me a name and phone number. Thanks alot for the information Burrhead. John Murrell

You're welcome John.
I'll be doing some surfin tonight and will look. I saw a place on the ATIS that somebody had mentioned about a rebuilder in Pa.
What's your nearest city??
The most expensive clutches and pressure plates here are the dual Spicer and pressure plates cost me $160 for all of it, and they resurface the center plate too at that price.

Hi Burrhead, The closest city to me is Cambridge Ohio, which if you are not from here is 85 miles east of Columbus Ohio and 50 miles west of Wheeling West Virginia.

There should be a brake and clutch rebuilder in either of those cities. It would be enough cheaper to find one in either than to buy as a rebuilt from some dealer or parts store.
I know ther's one in Stuebensville, but I can't remember the name.

Thanks Burrhead, what city are you close to? I have worked on many cars over the years but this is the first tractor that I have owned. We had several in my inlaws family but I never worked on them. Just how difficult is it to take the tractor in half. I also have a front loader on the tractor that is going to need to come off and I am not quite sure just how to do the hydraulics. I hope with a little help I can do this myself. If not I guess I will take it to someone. I had a estimate of $300 to put the parts in. Thanks John Murrell

I'm in the Houston, Texas area. I used to go up to Steubensville and Newell, W.V some years back. I think it was Martin Ferry where I would go north there. That is some beautiful country up along the river.

That clutch is'nt nearly as hard as it is intimidating.
I take masking tape and mark the lines and where they go with corresponding numbers. 1 goes to 1 and 2 goes to 2 etc. If you have a hoist and a couple of small bottle jacks the split is'nt that big of a deal. Just break it apart at the bellhousing like an auto.
When you go to line it back up the hoist makes it easier to shift the engine back and forth with.
Before you start to split it be sure to disconnect the battery 1st.
The clutch job is pretty forgiving as long as you don't hurry and practice safe mechanickin.
I put my email in on this post so if you need anything just holler.
