Hoping for some help with my Satoh. I had the head rebuilt a year ago, tuned it up and replaced the a cracked coil. the engine misses and backfires when under a load. i have been adjusting the timing but it doesn't seem to help. The advance seems to be working, I am not completely sure. Any suggestions would be appreciated. RC

Ron recheck the valve setting if all the other things checkout good. Sometimes after running awhile the valves will need re=adjusted and they make the engine pop and backfire when it gets in a strain.

thanks Burrhead, I will give it a go. I have noticed your name on here alot and was hoping for some help with this machine. When I bought it in 89' (it was kind of a deal with the house we bought) I didn't realize how poorly maintained it had been. I have replaced the alternator, water pump, thermostat, steering wheel (my fault, stuck in a snow bank in the blizzard of '96 in NJ)had the radiator and head rebuilt, and repaired the governer which was frozen stiff. I drug it out to Ohio when I moved here two years ago and the more I run it the better it seems to run aside from the missing and backfire problem. I have so much into it I figure I may as well keep it. It does work like a mule. Thanks again, RC P.S. My uncle bought a place in upstate NY and in the barn was one of the machines that came with the deal, yep a Satoh 650-G that runs really well. I told him to keep up the maintenance on it!
