I have a Satoh 650 G.. thats about all I know about it. It runs very well except that last winter something went wrong with the electical system. It fried the battery and the alternator was cooked to. I got a Motorola alternator that matched the old one exactly, but it still won't charge the the battery and none of the lights work. There is some kind of module or regulator under the dash board. What is it's purpose? Could this be my problem? As you can guess I'm not much of a mechanic but I'm willing to learn. Please help. Seems like we have alot of bright people browsing this sight. I have been told to try NAPA for a replacement. Is that good advice?

Thanks
Jerry

Good advise. It's probably the voltage regulator, and not allowing current to pass in either direction (my guess).

Let us know if you find a match at NAPA. Also, what was the P/N of the Motorola alternator you used as a replacement for the original? THese #s are important to all of us Satoh owner, 'cause as you know, original replacements are *darned* expensive, and hard to find. Any time we can find a suitable substitute thru NAPA or the like, it's worthwhile info to post. I know I've been maintaining a list of common replacements - points, condensor, cap, etc. Now if I coulod find a P/N for a replacement air filter and hydraulic filter I'd be real happy.
