I have a satoh s650. Does any one know what spark plugs it calls for? Also it was running OK until today it overheated in a few minutes. Do these have weak head gaskets or another problem. Also I have been told that this is a Mazda engine. Is this true? If it is will auto parts store be able to find head gasket and water pump for it?

Thanks for assistance

Joe

I solved an intermittent overheating problem on my S-450 by having the water pump rebuilt at Commercial Water Pump Rebuilders (very reasonable) and flushing the radiator.

Overheating on a Satoh, I would first check the thermostat before tearing into a head gasket job. Unless you have antifreeze in the oil or pressure building in the radiator really quick, my guess is the thermostat, water pump or radiator. I had a valve job done on my head a couple years back, not cheap. Last year the radiator showed evidence of being plugged, so I took it to a radiator shop and the ended up recoring it and as a bonus they added an extra row of cooling fins as there was room for them, not free but hey, extra cooling is good. I also had a problem with thermostats failing so I took the thermostat and removed the little valve and the spring assembly and just installed it like that. You need to have some type of restriction to slow the fluid flow enough for the radiator to remove the heat. I have not had a problem with overheating since, (knock on wood). Hope this helps you with your problem, I like my tractor have had it for 11 years and it works like a mule. I have said it before, maintenance is a key element to the longevity of a piece of equipment. And parts costing what they do, maintenance is just that much more important. Good luck, RC
