Had problems finding the correct paint for my 50 Cockshutt. Sherwin Williams no longer mixes the paint (in USA). Found some paint numbers for Dupont, took them to a Dupont jobber, but he couldn't mix them - wouldn't show up on their computer. I contacted Dupont directly and was told those were CANADIAN numbers. They gave me the correct formula for both colors for use in the US. Take the formula below to your Dupont jobber and they mix it.

The Cockshutt book compiled by the club lists some paint codes - I don't have the book handy. Have you looked into these? They looked like they should be easy to mix...

I used this paint formula on my Cockshutt 50. It's an easy to spray and real durable acrylic enamel. Kind of expensive, though - $150/gal., not including reducer.

Had thought about going thru the paint suppliers paint chips to find a close match, but was afraid I'd mess up. Also had considered having them take a "picture" of the previous finish and have them feed it thru their computer. But I opted instead to research the paint codes. I would definitely use these Dupont fomulas again - no regrets!

Those Sherwin Williams codes (can be found on the "Hobsickle" site) were a synthetic enamel - used that paint on the tractor 12 years ago. That paint would dull out very easily, and had to polish out the finish often.

Man, thanks for the tip but how could something like a red tractor color be so confusing? I've seen a ton of car and truck paints around that I'm sure are 95% correct to the original Cockshutt and that's the way I'd go. I did that with other tractors too and never had any comments about the color being off. Actually, I have heard that many of the manufacturers were never spot on in their paint purchases from one month to the next in those days anyways. But, it does show up to what extent some guys will go to be 100% accurate. Thanks.
