My buddy just bought an old Cockshutt tractor (I'm unsure of model) with a siezed clutch. Seems to be glued to the pressure plate. Any ideas on how to break it free without a major teardown ?? Thanks !!

my brother and I have a cockshutt 99 that just had the same problem, Was caused by rusted pressure plate guides. Remove top cover of clutch, you can see where the plate rides on three square pegs. put a little penetrating oil on each one, work the pedal and tap the area lightly with a hammer, they should free up pretty easy. (to get easy access to clutch, we had to take top cover/ belt pulley gearbox off, its not as hard as it sounds). good luck

I am currently working on an oliver 550 clutch which is the same as a cockshut. The problem with mine was that the clutch release (throw out) bearing had siezed and caused the pressure plate to not release the clutch diske. The pedal would traval normal range but with less resistance than normal. Mine has an inspection cover on the under side that can be removed to look inside. You should see if the pressure plate fingers are moving or not. My tractor has a front loader and backhoe on it that I had to remove before I could split the tractor in half. Once I had them off it was not too much of a chore to change the clutch and pressure plate. I found parts at:

If you can gain access to the clutch hold the pedal down and drive a screw driver or putty knife between the clutch and the disc. If it is not stuck too badly you can push start it in a high gear and hold the clutch pedal down and keep working the brakes till it breaks free.
