Do you have a British-made (BMC/Leyland) Long or a Romanian-made Long?

Check the data plate to see where it was made.
Also, for what it's worth, my Leyland-Long is red, and the Romainian Longs that I have seen are blue.

I have a British Leyland-Long, and I finally found a source for Leyland-Long parts
and information!

go directly to Web site 'http://angloamericanservices.com'
Do NOT do a search for this site- it will not show up!
Alternate: Call them at (865)-675-1505
(Knoxville, TN)

All the Best!

I don't have any way to tell you from the serial number. If you can decribe the tractor, how many cylinders the engine has, how many foward gears, does it have one gear shift or two, does the hood open from the side or tip foward. I might be able to get in the neighborhood.

The tractor has four cylinders - diesel. It has two gear ranges on one shift, and four forward gears and a reverse on the other. The hood tips forward and the battery is located in front of the radiator. It is a two wheel drive. Hope this helps. Thanks

I own a Long model 560 that I have had just about totally restored. It sat outside for a number of years and had not been run. A young fellow that has worked on tractors came over and fooled with it for a couple hours. Jump started it and it's
been running ever since. Had it sand blasted and painted, bought a 5' Long Finishing mower with a rear discharge, and it does a super job. The tractor was included in the property sale. The one problem has been with the lift mechanisim. It works when the unit is cold, but not after the tractor has been run. The dealer who worked on it changed the fluids and replaced seals and O rings.
I don't think he wants to fool with it as he does not have the time or manpower to trouble shoot the device. I have the service manual from Jensen Sales. Keep in mind I have never owned a tractor, much less a lawnmower. I have never cut grass before. I'm a city guy who up until this year has lived in apartments. This is all brand new to me. We live in Wakulla County, Florida, south of Tallahassee on 5 and a half acres. I must admitt I am hooked on running the tractor around the property. The engine has 2900 hours on it and is about 95 to 98% efficent. What amazed me about the device was the tremendous torque that it can develop. I would like to get the lift fully functional, as I have a John Deer grader plow that was also left behind. In the next year I plan on fencing the property and have to auger 200 some holes. I can rent that piece. The dealer told me he would rent me another tractor with the auger for far less then replacing the unit (anywhere between $500 to $2000) I am also building a garage, workshop in the next year or so. I would like to be able to hook up and emergency generator to the PTO. Any and all information, suggestions, advice, condolences, will be gratefully appreciated and acknowledged. In the meantime, I'm having a kick out of making excuses to run, what my wife calls, Papa Smurf.

I don't know if your tractor has the same setup as my 310 but if it does on theright side below the floorboard there is a round cylinder filter that bolts together in the hyd. line this becomes plugged on mine and makes it real jerky and i suspect if it went to long it would quit alltogether maybe it will help mike

Sounds like you have a 550, 560, or 610. Can you describe the headlights and their location? Also, could you describe the shift levers more fully?

The headlights are located at the front left and right corners of the engine hood (much like a lawn tractor). They are round and about 4" in diameter. The shift levers are about 12" in length and located on the top right area of the transmission. The range lever is on the right and the gear select lever is just to the left of it. The PTO has a hand clutchlever on the left side of the transmission. Thank you.

Sounds just like the 560 i just bought. What a great tractor.... I can't get my rear lift working either??? Of course i haven't tried all the levers yet. got it three days ago and find myself waking up at the crack of dawn just to drive it.. and then going to work. I now know why farmers get up so early... to drive their tractors.. Ha ha
