The Clark CA-1 was developed in 1942 for the US Army Corps of Engineers. It was designed to fit into the C-47 transport plane or a glider. A specialist group of Army engineers, called Airborne Aviation Engineers would fly the Clark and other equipment into remote areas to build new landing strips or repair damaged ones. They were built from 1942 to 1944, so you need to check your dates again. Total production was slightly over 2600 units.
