hello,I have a real oddball tractor for you.it is a 1959 SCHRAMM 125.I need to find out where you check the oil level in the rear end/axle.I also need to find out where you add oil to the rear end.The only thing I have been able to find is the drain plug-very large located at the bottom of the case. The tractor sat for about five years in the same place without being started or touched at all and I would like to change allthe fluids in the machine.

my next question would be does the engine use a special type of oil because of the compressing cylinders being on the same crankshaft??I know that on air compressors in general they use a type of oil called "compressor oil" but they are belt driven by an engine and not in the same block sharing a common fluid. Also does someone out there know what the filter # is for this engine? It takes a cartridge type filter but their are no identifying marks on the filter.

Also does the trans share the fluid with the rearend or are they separate cases??And do either of them use a filter??Im sure that if someone has a manual on this tractor the info would be in it but I havent found one yet.

Also does someone know the correct amounts of fluid that go into the engine-trans-and rear end??

If you guys can post info on any or all of my questions it would be a great help.

Thanks for your time and effort...schramm...

I had a Schramm 125 for several years, but sold it a couple of years back. The transmission and rear end are identical to those used on a Farmall Super C tractor. I dont remember how to check the oil, but get on the IH board and ask how to check out a Super C. Mine had the IH 6-cylinder engine that had been modified by Schramm to run on the front three and pump air on the rear three. Mine was a semi-diesel in that it started on gas with a carb and spark plugs, and then switched over to diesel. Five or six years ago, I called the company and they sent me a parts book and an operator's manual. They went with the tractor when I sold it. I used regular 30 weight oil in the engine, and that machine was great for running a sandblaster or my glass bead cabinet.

thanks JCS,i have that issue but it doesnt provide any important info about the tractor-just an interesting story of how the guy found it and restored it.

ive been all over this tractor and cant find the level or fill plugs for the trans or rear end/axle
id like to replenish the oil but dont want to drain it until i know where to put it in at and how much it will take so i can buy the neccessary amount of oil ahead of time.

this is a 1959 model 125 schramm air tractor. The one in the article was a 1966 series 62 schramm tractor-Ive tried to contact the author of that article but it turns out he wrote it in the eighties and i havent been able to contact him.I think he has sold the tractor also.

the engine is an international six cylinder gas.So i imagine someone has this engine in something and might know what oil filter # it takes-its a cartridge type filter.

thanks for your help...schramm...

I had a schramm 2 years ago. Back-hoe loader/aircompressor. Had the manuals. On mine the engine was 100% schramm. 3 cyls for the compressor, 3 for combustion all in one inline 6 cyl. engine. The rear 3 cyls based on air pressure would pump up the lifters & let the rear cyls coast with the valves open on those 3 cyls when no air was needed. When presure dropped, oil feeding the lifters stopped & they collapsed & it pumped air.. Took a regular heavy duty SAE30 engine oil. From the clutch mainshaft back is International farm tractor. On my tractor I stopped when I went to rebuild the engine. They are made to run FOREVER & are built to accomplish that if PROPERLY maintained.. The main bearing set was nearly $1000. When you see one you will understand why....Looking at the cost of rebuilding the Schramm I desperately wanted to put an International farm tractor engine into the machine as for a back-hoe loader tractor the digging/ripping power was AMAZING. The machine was built to dig in rock. If you couldn't dig, you got off & jack hammered some with the built in air compressor & then got back up & started digging again. Schramm is still in bussiness & making Schramm specific parts for the machine. As of 2 years ago they did not have a web site. A Yahoo search in the yellow pages will turn them up... I really wish I could remember the model letter of the International farm tractor that was used as drivetrain. I'm POSITIVE of that as the manuals had a parts section and for each part they gave part number & manufacturer. International made the whole thing up to but NOT including the transmission mainshaft. That was made by Schram for their engine/clutch assembly. Maybe in one of the International chat rooms they can help you figure out the International model letter. One thing that did stand out about the International drivetrain, the farm tractor was kinda rare as they hardly ever had PTo's & were mainly built for pulling. That may help. Good luck. If I remember anything else I'll post again. Additionaly, I'm in upstate north eastern NY. I know where the hoe attachment ended up & they guy might be interested in selling it.
