Long 445 brakes, turning radius, differential lock

I just purchased a Long 445, seems to run well but I noticed it does not brake well unless I push hard and then seems to grab. I have a service manual on order but any suggestions on how to check the brakes or what to look for? Also the emergency brake does not seem to do anything.

The turning is poor, it seems that the front end floats. Should I be using the left or right brake to help and will front end weights help? Is there a front end boom sprayer attachment and would the tank weight do the job?

I noticed that there is a foot lever to the right of the seat and perhaps that is a differential lock as on the new tractors. If so how/why would one use it?

Thanks,
Dan

The lever you are refering to is a differential lock. It is use when you have one wheel spinning in the mud, you can lock both rear wheels togather for extra traction.

As for the brake problem, it seem that you may have a oil leak and the brakes are statuated with oil. You should remove brakes, clean and replace seals.

As for the emergency brake, if I remeber correctly you have to remove the pto shifter housing to get at the adjuster. Best wait till you get manual and check.
