Recently purchased a good running but non-moving Payloader. Would like to know how to diagnose a torque converter on a Hough model HM. Also, can the torque converter be replaced directly with a drive shaft if the converter is worn out?

Thanks for any information.

I also bought a Payloader HM

I am have trouble about how the torquer converter works.

Some of the controls to the torquer converter was not connected when I bought it.

There is a control on the top of the torquer converter (it looks like a plugger with a ring at the end), I do not know what it's purpose is.

Also on the side is two more controls, one is connected to a leveler much like a gear shalf

The top one is not connected (bolt strip out of the plugger and the one underneath is connect properly. I believe this is high and low range
controls for the torquer converter, but I am not sure.

I am trying hard to put my Payloader in first rate condition, but without a repair manuel I just have to do it the hard way, trial and error.

If you now where I can locate a repair manuel it would be a great help to me.

The motor has been chanced (I thank so, but also am not sure) in my Payloader and now have a automatic transmission in it. The clutch pedal has been totally disconnected, I thank it was the clutch pedal left of the brake pedal.

Maybe we can learn together about how to overhaul both yours and mind.

I have an HM but there isn't any torque converter in it, at least not what I'm used to seeing It has a dry clutch and a short driveshaft that goes to the input of the transmission/transfer case. Mine didn't have the origional engine in it when I got it and I have since put in a Ford 300-6 engine which works pretty good.Re: a manual for the unit, one of the tractor related sites has them but the name is in my other computer. If you still need the info, email me and I'll try and find it for you. I've had some cold weather problems with my steering that I was wondering if anyone had answers for. When the machine is cold as in Michigan winter, it will steer easily from the center (straight) to the extreme right and back but not to the left until the oil is thoroughly warmed up. Any ideas? By the way, my machine is supposed to be a 1952 model.
