Hi all, I have had my 650g for 12 years and like it a lot. I have had one re-occurring problem with the steering shaft connecting the steering wheel to the worm gear. The coupler that slides over the worm gear keeps seperating from the steering shaft. This time it broke clean off. It doesn't seem to turn hard and doesn't seem to be bent. I am at my wits end with this one problem as I put over 200 bucks into parts last summer. I don't try to turn the tractor unless it is moving and have been steering it with concern for the parts. Obviously to no avail. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanx RC

Allow me to answer my own question. I purchased the steering shaft from J. Alderson Equip. in Pa. While on the phone, I asked if he also had the steering column (tube) that houses the steering shaft. He did and I purchased that along with the shaft. When I recieved the parts, I found that the column had a steel and rubber type support bushing in the top of the column, instead of a bearing like I had installed on the original equipment. Let me back-up for you, I had occasion to remove the steering wheel and hub and found the previous owner had placed several washers to support the steering shaft. I thought this rather strange and went ahead and replaced it with a bearing. Unbenounce to me, I may have caused my own problem. By installing a bearing I think I made the steering shaft too rigid, thus not allowing the shaft to move as freely as needed. From an engineering standpoint, Satoh screwed up and they fixed it with a cheap bushing. If the set up had been properly built, all parts would line up and a bearing not a rubber bushing would support the shaft. Oh well, I have learned another lesson. May it rain just enough for you to appreciate a sunny day. Take it easy, RC
