My dad has a early 70's 360 long tractor with power steering problems. He had the first pump rebuilt and after reinstallation it would work only in one direction. He purchased a new pump and it made no difference. By the way the only reason he had the first one rebuilt was because it was leaking. Anyone had simular problems?

Could you tell me what power steering fluid is used for a late 1970's Long 610?

Thanks,
Curley

Sounds like the problem is with the cylinder, not the pump. Depending on the type of cylinder, maybe it can be adjusted. Describe your cylinder. Is the ram (shiny part) at the front or rear? What diameter is the ram?

The ram is on the front and is 1 & 1/4 inches in diameter. It is adjustable but no matter how it is adjusted the problem just reverses to the opposite direction. It acts like some valve in the cylinder will not reverse and allow the power steering to operate in the opposite direction. Any ideas ?
