Have you completed your purchase? I am considering a Long 610 also and would like any suggestions that you might make. I am a little concerned about the price as well as the tractor itself. The asking price for the tractor with loader and hay spike is $8900, but it represented to be a 1988 model.

610s usually are a easy starting tractor. When you go to check the tractor again. Note cranking speed. Engine should crank rapidly. If it does not, the battery may not have enough cranking amps (at least 900CCA). If engine does crank rapidly, then check for blowby at the end of the crankcase breather tube after engine has started. If there is excessive blowby, you may be in for a overhaul.

Hard starting could be caused by something as simple as injection pump timing or injector opening pressure or the starter not cranking fast enough. Or it could be something more complicated (expensive). You have to try one thing at a time doing the cheap things first. Despite the hard starting the 610 is a heck of a fine tractor.
