Recently acquired a little 3-wheeled forklift. Says Transitier on the serial tag. Has a little Crosley 4-cylinder and about a 7 foot mast. I would guess capacity at about 700 lbs. or less.
Any idea how old this machine is? What ever happened to the company, are they still around? Any info is appreciated. Thanks,
Lavoy

Yes they were made in Portland Oregon. I believe the company who made them was named Iron Fireman ,long since gone out of business. The early models were Transiters with the Crosley engine, later they were produced under the Pettibone Mercury name and had the name High Duty on them with a Waukesha engine. The High Duty model was the first forklift we owned had to rebuild the entire truck from the ground up. We sold it a while ago because we out grew it. It scared a lot of guys because it was kinda tippy but the counterweight kept it from going all the way over. Very handy little machine. The one We owned still had the tag on it and was rated at 3000# lift. The only weak part is the front axle it bends and after a while the axle shafts snap. We bought one for parts that was the early model like yours and it too had a broken axle. I found a longer axle in the scrap that had the same splines, cut it to length and welded a big nut to the end. Then I sawed the broken axle off flush with the flange and welded a socket to the flange this in effect created a flexible coupling compared to a solid axle and did job until We sold the lift truck. I still have the Crosley motor and trans and hyd pump and controls and maybe even a few more goodies from the parts machine I would sell the whole works if you are interested. Mike,

My dad is in the process of restoring one of these forklifts. It is the later High Duty type and in good condition mechanically. He is however missing the original shifting lever for forward and reverse, in its place is one off of a newer forklift. If you still have parts for one of these forklifts he may be interested, especially if you have the shifting lever. Please contact me if you still have parts or additional information on these forklifts, I am also in the Portland area. My email is oldmachines@hotmail.com

thanks,

Todd

Never heard of this forklift, is it a ride on? Sit down? Stand up?

Since it has the Crosley engine it was probably built after WW2. (Late 40's or early 50's) as there were were many surplus engines then after the war production. Any other info on the ID plate? City? What's it rated at 1,000#? 1,500#?

Got a picture of it?

It is a ride-on, 3 wheeled, would guess capacity at no more than 700 lbs. Was manufactured in Oregon.
I have pictures, but don't know how to post. E-mail me and I can send them to you.
