I seen a picture of a Rockol 98 in one of my magazines. It said it was a 1954 model with a inline 8 cylinder Chrysler flathead 12A engine. It looks similar to a wards, custom tractor.Does anyone know of one of these?Seems like a really neat tractor,I would like to learn more about the tractor.I have never heard of an 8 cyl.inline engine in a tractor!! Thanks for any info.

I dont know about the Rockol having a 8 cylinder but its my understanding that the Custom tractor built around 30 of the straight 8 units. They didnt go over very well because they were gas hogs. I think there were several tractors altered or refitted with the big 8 clyinder over the years. I have one of the Customs with a 8 cylinder. You can see pics at my web site under tractors. I wouldnt try to make it pull, the drivetrain didnt hold up at all for me once I got her to hook up. I do however tractor drag race it and she will go!

I've seen a Rockol model 98 but it was powered by a 6 cylinder Chrysler, not a straight 8. That's surprising since the fact that by '54 or so, I don't think Chrysler had made any straight 8's for a long, long time. They were into V8's by then. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure they ever made one, maybe back in the 20's, I'm not sure. Those Rockols were one of many tractors that looked almost identical. I think they were made by the same outfit somewhere in the states and they ended up with a dozen different names on them including Rockol. They used mostly Chrysler Corp. Dodge truck components for the engine, tranny (fluid drive I believe) and rear end I believe. I'm sure someone else knows more details on them than I do.
