WOULD I BE HAPPIER BUYING THE NEW 28 HP DIESEL MAGNATRAC OR CAN THE PROBLEMS I'VE HEARD ABOUT WITH THE 30 HP CHINESE BULLDOZER SOLD BY NORTHERN TOOL BE FIXED?THE CHINESE DOZER IS CHEAPER AND HEAVIER BUT PROBABLY PARTS WOULD BE HARD TO OBTAIN SOME YEARS FROM NOW?THE MAGNATRAC LOOKS TO BE GOOD QUALITY BUT IT ONLY WEIGHS SLIGHTLY OVER 2,000 POUNDS AND I HAVE QUITE ABIT OF GRADING TO DO(I WOULD HAVE TO RENT A DOZER FOR AT LEAST A MONTH IF I GO THE RENTAL ROUTE).I JUST DON'T THINK THE MAGNATRAC IS BIG ENOUGH?MAYBE THE ONLY WAY TO GO IS WITH A USED FULL-SIZE,BRAND-NAME,MACHINE.I DON'T WANT TO BUY A BEAT-UP PIECE OF JUNK THAT WILL NEED EXTENSIVE REPAIRS WITHIN 6 MONTHS OF PURCHASE.IS IT TRUE THAT A SMALL DOZER TRACK CAN BE SENT OUT TO BE RE-BUSHED AND PINNED FOR UNDER $1500?IF I BOUGHT THE MAGNATRAC,I MIGHT BE ABLE TO SOMEDAY RE-BUSH AND PIN MY OWN TRACK WHERE IT IS SMALLER AND LIGHTER?LONG LIST OF QUESTIONS,I KNOW.ANY INPUT WOULD BE APPRECIATED.THANKS..... ..ROBERT.

What are the "problems" with the Chinese dozer sold by Northern Tool that you allude too? I don't know is you've bought, but the Magnatrak looks way to light to do decent work. I"m looking at the NorTrac dozer but would be interested in hearing about these "problems". Please send me an e-mail at maresrun1@yahoo.com Thanks.

Did you make your decision? I just bought a Magnatrac 6000 with loader, backhoe, 6-way dozer blade, ripper, post hole auger,etc....went thru much of the same questioning/justification process as you. Attachments are extremely good, well engineered, appear to be bullet proof. My initial impression is the company needs a larger undercarriage system to balance out the machine and what it is capable of. Time will tell--I have only 4 hours on it. I have a lot of dozing to do also but don't think this is the machine for big time, serious dirt moving--much will depend on the terrain and type of soil you are working with. Let me know what you ultimately do. Thanks

Robert, I've never used a Magnatrac, but they do appear to be a well built machine. My Son recently bought a 5 year old Magnatrac 5000 for $1300.00 from an old farmer's wife after he passed away. It doesn't run -- sat in storage for 4 years, and needs some tinkering to get it going, and my Son joined the AirForce! But we were amazed when she gave us the manuals and original bill of sale, and discovered that it cost $16000.00 new. So one with a diesel must cost alot more. I think for that kind of money, I'd buy a good used 4 wheel drive tractor with a loader, or a skid steer,or a larger used crawler, and if you don't need it when your done, sell it.
