Anyone use this paint? Found it at Farm and Fleet. I know Valspar is good paint, so I think I might go with this on my distant future JD restoration. Any opinions would be great. Thanks

I used Valspar on a 1947 CO-OP E3. Its probrobly as good as the origional paint. Took a piece of
metal from the tractor cleaned all the grease off
then took it to Lowes. Guy there computer matched
the color and my son painted the tractor. Quite
satisfactory, and a very good color match. If you
want a shine like old tractors never had you will
probrobly have to use Auto paint.

This is too funny-I came to this forum just to post a message about Restoration Series. I just finished reworking a planter and used the JD Yellow on some rims.

I didn't expect much and have pretty much been a biggot against rattle cans. However since this was just an old 7000 planter and I only had a little yellow to do I couldn't justify mixing a batch for the spray gun.

The Valspar restoration stuff came out awesome! I would be hard pressed to tell the difference between that and what I would do with a gun. Now I am no auto body guy and a VERY amateur painter-but given bad jobs I have done due to incorrect mixes, etc. I am going to use this stuff more often-at least for smaller parts.

I would be a little leary of doing something like fenders or a hood with it-and I don't know if it is going to wear that well or not but so far I am very impressed. BTW I got it for $6.75 a can at our local Farm & Fleet.

I put a link to the rim I painted with it below-it could use another coat and I was a moron and didn't mask it off well but you get the idea.

Looks good! You could have cleaned up the tire if you had wiped the paint off with a compatable solvent right away.

Check to see what it is. If it just says enamel or alkyd enamel on the can, it will fade. If it costs about $20/gallon it will fade. If it says acrylic modified alkyd enamel, it may be ok. I doubt if it is acrylic enamel or acrylic urethane. Without using the J word, tractor store paint will not last, unless kept inside and/or waxed regularly.

Yes, I've tried some of their JD yellow on both front and rear wheels of a JD 2750. Good stuff, but expensive ($7.15 for a rattle can). It is much better (higher gloss) than the Farm and Fleet "generic" yellow, and maybe even better than JD yellow (I haven't compared the two). I bought mine also at Farm and Fleet, and just by chance talked at length with a Valspar Rep at the local F&F last fall. He convinced me that the new stuff is quite good. Several restoration friends have told me that Valspar makes at least some of Deer's paint, although I can't confirm that.
