Howdy,

Have a 51 MT and I am almost at the point of getting it painted. Since I do not have either the tools or inclination to paint her, I want to contract it out to someone locally.

Your help would be immensely appreciated if you could tell me what a fair price is to paint the entire MT. I would like to provide the paint and any other misc ingredients so your help on this would be also appreciated. Here is some information:

1. The cast-iron is all in pretty good shape and is pretty much cleaned of all old debris
2. The grille is good to go, have new screens, fenders are good with some very minor rough spots
3. The hood had some welding done where the exhaust pipe fits through, but is pretty much ready to go except for some smoothing where the pipe comes through...
4. Rims on front are great, rims in back have some rust flakes where the air-stems come through
5. New battery box [remakes]

Lastly, would it be of benefit to pre-disassemble some of the parts that would not be painted like the radiator, generator, etc...or, any suggestions on helping to do some of the prep work that would fairly reduce the prepping-costs? All suggestions welcomed.

I would really appreciate your feedback...i am trying to get the paint/restoration job done because this MT belonged to a man that was like my second father and he died many yrs ago and his wife [85] is not doing well and i wanted her to see it before she passes...thanks a million for your help and let me know if i can answer any of your questions.

Thanks,
tstex

(auto body/restoration tech 35 yrs) My suggestion is to find a very reputable and trustworthy person close to where you live and be COMPLETELY honest with him about exactly what you are expecting as far as quallity of the completed job.(Expo quallity...local show...parade...hay-ride tractor)You most likely will be looking at a minimum of $1000 on up to $3000 but the variables in materials and labor are too varied to go into on this forum, thats why you need to choose one person and work out all the details and your priorities with them. LOL.

Thank you. I agree that the range of variables are pretty broad, but you helped with the minimum and maximum dollar values...i am looking for something that looks nice and will prevent further rusting and nice to view for hayrides...it is also going to be a back-up work tractor, but i will not take it in or near the woods to prevent scratching...thanks again, tstex
